Damie’s Poem
He came to us on the internet
Always searching and looking for Dobes
His eyes pleaded, take me as your pet
How could we deny this boy with natural lobes?
He sat in the back of the car
So tall so free and proud
We knew not if he came from near or far
But our love for him we could scream so loud
He entered the house with such ease
To us he seemed the size of a horse
His intent was only to please
His route to our hearts was a matter of course
He seemed to be the perfect boy
He loved and leaned and kissed
Who knew his sweet demeanor could just be a ploy
Snarling and snapping at canine foe to Damie was not to be missed
He
was rushed to animal ER
His tummy twisted and bloated
We didn’t know if he’d get another ride in the car
But he knew there was more time to be doted
He was back at the beach and would run like the wind
Chasing power boats was really his passion
He would swim as if he were finned
Doggy Paddle he would keep in fashion
His gait became increasingly unsteady
He tottered around at the beach
But he always wanted to go, leaping up to say I’m ready
His gait to Charlie Chaplain he could teach
He was sensitive and gentle and kind
When Leon had cardiac problems
He would sit by him to nurse and to mind
Never letting him get down in the doldrums
He tended to want eat Kitty’s
But this was just one of his quirks
He would also like to eat Pitties
But these were just plans in the works
He went for swimming therapy with Dr Jewell
However Mark Spitz was never his friend
Only apple would coax the stubborn mule
But water would help him to mend
He went to Janice and Tonya for help
And help is what he would need
He was stoic with never a yelp
Always raiding their pockets for feed
How can you define love?
So huge and large and free
Maybe with that nose he would shove
Saying hey it’s all about me
His face at the window
Always a source of joy
Making him always our hero
Our beautiful handsome big boy
To every Dobie with Cardiomyopathy
May none of you suffer any more
Will breeders no longer show complacency
And please let the entrance to heaven be a doggy door
One Friday evening he started to fade
Saturday morning we knew what we must do
With Janice and Lin and I there, on Lin’s back seat he laid
And with grace and love and dignity off to the bridge he flew
Now Damie is no longer here
There is a void so immense so raw
But he’s is in a place called raspberry heaven we hear
And he doesn’t even have to ask for more.
Our Bug, our Waggle Butt, our
Twinkle Toes, our Big Man.
Thankyou for choosing us to spend your final years with,
we will love you and miss you always, you enriched our lives and gave us so
much love.
