1. Why are Organic Vegetables Better?

Over the years, industry has introduced many chemicals to our food, water, and planet in a race to generate more profits. This includes modern conventional farming practices. While some research claims that in small amounts these chemicals are not harmful – there is no long-term research to suggest that their build-up will not cause long-term health problems.

Organic vegetables and fruits are grown without the use of artificial chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Instead, organic farmers work with nature, by using crop rotations for fertility and predatory insects to eat the pests that damage their plants. Therefore, organic foods are virtually free of any chemicals, some of which are considered as potentially cancer causing.

Further, because organic foods are allowed to grow naturally any chemical or genetic intervention, and are grown in healthy soil, which has not been depleted of nutrients through years of over-farming, they are believed to contain more nutrients than conventionally grown foods. In addition, organic farming helps to keep toxins out of our air, water and soil, and supports a healthy environment.

2. Why are juiced vegetables better for dogs?

Vegetables contain a number of essential fatty acids, micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals that can benefit your dog. However, dogs do cannot digest fruits and vegetables because they lack the enzyme necessary to break down cellulose. In nature, dogs will typically eat the stomach content of their herbivorous prey, which contains foods that have already been partially digested. In order to achieve a similar effect in the raw diet, we juice all the vegetables and fruits we add to our raw meals, which makes the nutrients more accessible for the canine digestive system. 3. Doesn't juicing destroy some of the nutrients in the vegetables?

Yes and no. Most home juicers are centrifugal juicers - that means they use a high-speed disk and filter to grind the vegetables and separate the juice. This type of juicing process generates a significant amount of heat, which accelerates the oxydation process, destroying or degrading many of the nutrients. On the other hand, a hydrolic press juicer - a machine that uses a pressing mechanism to extract the juice from the vegetables - typically produces very little heat and oxydation, and subsequently has the highest nutrient juice.

4. Why do we not add supplements to our products?

We believe that supplementation is very individual and can vary substantially from one animal to another. Many healthy animals do not require supplementation if they their diet is varied enough and includes a sufficient amount of meaty bones. The only supplement that may be benenficial is oil for essential fatty acids. There are a number of oils that can serve this purpose and their nutritional value is much more potent when they are served fresh on top of the food, rather than frozen with it. Please talk to your veterinarian or nutritional advisor if you think your dog or cat requires any additional supplements.
